Enhancing natural light and selecting materials
The clinic’s long structure, with a narrow entryway as the only source of natural light, could have led to a sensation of confinement, thus impeding the goal of conveying a feeling of serenity. Consequently, the project was designed based on making the common spaces and service areas homogenous and full of character, opting for wood and glass as the main materials for the partitions.
The objective was three-fold: enhance the distribution of natural light, optimize the use of available space, and make users feel as if they are not in a healthcare environment.
KLEIN FRONT: natural partitions and noble materials
In this context, the KLEIN FRONTsystem turned out to be the perfect solutions: it combines fixed glass architectural walls with warm sliding wood doors.
The transparency of the glass defines the patient rooms without blocking the visual relationship between spaces, while the wood moves the aesthetic away from standard healthcare codes and creates a feeling of wellness.The sliding nature of the doors removes any possible obstacle from the circulation areas and maximizes space. A recessed drop ceiling installation was chosen in order to enhance the lightness of the partitions and the elegance of the finishes: the aluminum systems ends up being completely invisible, allowing the glass and wood to take center stage.
The sliding wood panels can be moved easily and effortlessly, without making any noise. The KSC-Klein Soft Closingbraking mechanism, which is incorporated into the KLEIN FRONTsystem, softens the act of both opening and closing, thus preventing any banging or bounce back. The absence of floor tracksis an extremely pertinent hygienic component in a healthcare setting since it facilitates cleaning and access. The lighting, another very successful element, contributes to the serenity of the space, combining the limited amount of natural light in common areas with a more intense presence in the patient rooms. “All of this allowed us to step away from the idea of healthcare centers with white hallways illuminated with artificial light, which end up feeling so cold,”explains architect Mario Franco Denis.
